‘What is in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet’ – Romeo and Juliet SHAKESPEARE
Petals are important in Yoga philosophy. Lotus flower petals are used to symbolise the chakras. Nature, flowers and petals are inherently beautiful and it could be said that petals symbolise the beauty we find in nature. They are delicate and in most cases follow a cycle of life.
‘We are beautiful vulnerable flowers. We start as tiny seeds. We grow taller, ever stronger and develop buds. Slowly we blossom. Falling open. Fragile. Some see our beauty and pluck us to display until we wilt and fade away. Others can admire our beauty at every stage. They water and nurture us and leave us to blossom, bloom, fall apart, reroot just to grow taller and flower again. If the wind blows particularly strong and your roots are untethered. If your scattered in seeds on the ground. Find the beauty in your process, know you are full of potential for growth and bursting with opportunity to begin again.’ – ABBEY
The dust element of Petals and Dust yoga is to remind us that sometime we can neglect ourselves. Our bodies, our minds and our souls. Even petals covered in gathered dust are still petals waiting to be uncovered. Still beautiful. Beauty is subjective to each and everyone, the key to finding your inner beauty is acceptance. Dust isn’t categorically pretty or valued but it’s made from the same stuff as us. The same stuff as petals. Accepting yourself without judgement of good or bad is something I want to teach and encourage through my yoga teaching and practices.
Love and Light,
Abbey.
